Artistic Inspiration: John Williams- Becoming A Geisha

So far for my Artistic Inspirations I've talked about my favourite computer artist, mangaka, animated film director, photographer, and drawer. I still have yet to talk about dancing and music.

I was a little kid the first time I watched Memoirs of a Geisha so at the time I didn't understand what was going on. Years later when I did a project about Geisha and researched about them, I re watched the movie and understood it A LOT better but I still didnt understand the story...(until I read the book [which was very interesting and finished it under a week])

Years ago, the time when I first watched the movie, my dad bought the album with the instrumentals and put it in iTunes so when I plugged in my iPod it synced into it. I listened to a few of the songs but the one that caught my eye was 'Becoming A Geisha'.

Listening to the song at the moment, its really difficult for me to describe. It sounds off sounding like a mystical Asian melody consisting of a range of string instruments then slowly changes to tiko drums and then changes back to the original melody. For ever time the chorus comes, it gets stronger and includes another instrument.

When I put my headphones on and close my eyes, this song takes me to another world. I begin to think of a rural area with traditional styled homes, a small stream, and a garden full of cherry blossom trees with its petals floating in the wind. Once the tiko drums come, I feel as if I'm at a festival (o_o)

Tips & Tricks: How To Get A Photo In A Circle

For the independent assignment, Adobe Illustrator failed on me so I had to use Photoshop for the first time. I was so lost at first and still didn't know much about it but I somehow completed the project. I wish I had time to watch tutorials to help me...

I found this tutorial where you can put a picture in a circle and it looks simple enough for a noob like me can do ^^ I could've used this in my poster or flyer to make it more interesting =_____=

W2Beauty

Concept: To re-brand the Korean online cosmetics store, W2Beauty
Medium: Adobe Illustrator/ Adobe Photoshop
I chose these two mediums because they allowed me to easily trace over pictures and to crop out the cosmetics.
Issues/Problems: My first problem was making the poster. Since I had a lot of traced images as the background, whenever I quit the program and go back into it. I kept getting notices where they couldn't find the image and asked me to replace, cancel, or ignore. I would've been okay if it were one or two images but it ended up being all of them.
Since I wanted to work on the project at home where it is more quiet and there are less distractions, I wanted to download Adobe Illustrator. My friend put an illegal version on my tablet and it worked for a while until when I tried to save something and it closed and said there was a system error. Then I downloaded the trial version. I managed to get the poster (almost) done before the trial did the same thing. When I tried to uninstall it, my tablet wouldnt allow it so I wasn't able to try to download the trial version again. Since Illustrator was unavailable, I tried out Photoshop for the first time and managed to get some of the things done.
I originally had a lot of other things like apparel, freebies, website, app, etc but since I had technical errors. I wouldn't be able to get those done in time.
Procedure: First I searched online for the cosmetics logos and tried to find as much info about W2Beauty then traced all of them and saved it onto my desktop and USB. Then I searched up products to crop them in Photoshop. I then created a background to use.
Opinion: I am quite satisfied with my final piece since I tried out Photoshop and I like my theme and the way I united everything together.

Wild Card: EXO- MAMA

Even though this is a music video, I think it suits CyberARTS Tech due to the computer animations made for the story introduction and to give all twelve members in EXO a sort of celestial power. (Teleportation, wind, earth, light, water, fire, time control, telekinesis, lightning, heal, frost, and flight) (;゜0゜)

EXO is a Chinese-South Korean boyband that has two subgroups, EXO-K and EXO-M. EXO-K sings in Korean and promotes in Korea while EXO-M sings in Mandarin and promotes in China. They made their debut in 2012 and in the past year, became known to Beliebers and Directioners by coming out suddenly and beating them in the EMAzing Award ψ(`∇´)ψ

MAMA starts off with an English voice over illustrating the birth of twelve legendary powers that break into two separate forces in order to "keep alive the heart of the tree of life" which is being conquered by an evil force. The two legends divide the tree of life in half, and carries each piece to their own lands. The narration then declares that the two legends will "reunite into one perfect root" on the day, the evil force purifies.

No but seriously, their MAMA music video is amazing and is what got me into K-pop (And btw no, this song isn't about their mamas, in Korean, MAMA translates to "your highness" or "your majesty")

There are two music videos for MAMA, one in Korean and the other in Mandarin but I chose a video that someone made that shows both of them at the same time.

Wild Card: EXO Speed Art

Remember my last post about the difference between techniques for shading in realistic drawings?
Well I found videos where one person shades using stomp (and Q-tips) and the other person shades using lines.

Flower Boy Sehun [Speed Draw] 엑소 Exo

In this video, the artist uses the stomp and Q-tips to shade and blend. (I use the stomp technique too by why don't mine look as OMG-worthy as her???) *cries EXO feels in a corner*

 EXO ~ CHEN ~ (speed paint) 엑소 엠 첸

In this video, the artist uses lines for shading.

EXO-M - Chen {Speed Paint}

I clicked on this video thinking it was another drawing but nooooooooooooo its a painting and what makes it even worse is that she uses water colour which is one of the difficult ones being harder to control!

EXO-K Kai Painting

This is a speed drawing done on Photoshop (which is something that I still have yet to try out and when I do, I can't watch these videos)

OKAY THAT'S IT! I'VE HAD ENOUGH! CAN'T LOOK AT ANYMORE VIDEOS

Artistic Inspiration: Chonlada Benpard

Similar to Lotten R, Chonlada is also another inspiration to me when it comes to realistic art. While I admired Lotten mostly for her computer drawings, I admire Chonlada for her realistic drawings done with graphite pencils and pencil crayons.

I don't remember what I had put in the Google search engine but it involved EXO cause I came across one of her drawings that she had done of Luhan. That drawing made me stop scrolling down and click onto her DeviantArt link and when I did that, I got sad instantly. I just began to do realistic profile drawings last year and I thought they were really good until that moment. Her drawings made me think that mine look like a children's drawing compared to hers.

Going through the drawings she posted on her DeviantArt account, I noticed that she uses a different technique than I do. When I drawings of people, I always use something to smudge the pencil lines, either my finger or a stomp, but Chonlada doesn't seem to use the smudge technique. Instead she uses lines to do shadows. She follows the lines in the facial features to make hers look more like the person. If you look closely, you can see that she also uses the cross-hatching technique for the darker areas like the neck area and clothing.

I first found out about the line technique while I was at an art college for the open house. The teacher said that in the first year at that college for animation, its all drawing and that hey will be going over all the basics and techniques. But I plan to teach myself and practice before I get in that school.

I love that she draws K-pop idols especially the SM Entertainment artists...EXO...
